Kitesurfing Fuerteventura!

Postby gvironda » Wed Feb 05, 2014 1:54 pm

Hi guys
I am planning to go in August in Fuerteventura.
Do you suggest me Corralejo + Flag Beach, or Costa Calma (the Rene Egli spot)?
I will be with my wife and 4 years old kid, so I am also looking for a beach where they can have a decent life :-)
thanks a lot!
Beppe

I've been to Rene Egli.

Positives: Good kite school, nice beach, wind is consistent, the 4* hotel is family friendly with a kids club, decent buffet food, shop, bar etc., it's hot, clean.

Negatives: completely dead for nightlife in the area - I walked for an hour through the main town looking for a decent bar/restaurant and must have seen no more than 3 people, nothing much around the area, lunar landscape (No trees! Unless planted in the town and next to the hotels), more windsurfing orientated, the shop is not well stocked with kite gear/boards, looong bus ride from the airport (over an hour); 95% German windsurfers - i've nothing against Germans but I was alone and a little lacking in conversation, and couldn't read the food labels in the hotel; the thigh deep lagoon is only workable at certain tide times and sections are blocked off for teaching.

North is my advice.
You can drive occasionally down to Sotavento in you want. Consider that Sotavento can be "nuclear".

Being in the northern part, you'll have Flag beach and Cotillo.
Also you'll have more entertainments in Corralejo for you and your family.

Ciao !

I've been to Fuerte twice. Once south and once north in Corralejo. Definitely north. For the same reasons Faber stated.

The few sessions I had (different years) at Sotavento were... gusty as hell and no fun. Flag beach and Cotillo offered me some of the best winds I have experienced.

Definitely North - just watch out for all the fat tattooed English !

The rental Line Up rental center is v good - allowing you to have an SUP in the morning and swap it for a kite/board, or even a foil board. I don't like rental, but Line Up are so good, I would not bother to take kit to Fuerte - just make sure you reserve the kite/board you think you will be using most.
