kite Pump Concept Design

Postby kob » Sun Feb 23, 2014 5:22 am

Hi Kite Riders,

Here is one of my recent ideas for kite gear.
I design new kite pump... the shape of the pump make its much more flat and slim then the normal one. its make the pump much more compact inside the kite bag (and much more cool i think).

As for the pumping i make hole in the bottom for one leg that i believe can keep the pump solid and stable on the ground. with one hand you can grab the handle and pump your kite (when your hand is in the centre you create much more power in the centre and with your second hand you can grab your beer :)

I had some nice idea for the hose too, the hose can get easy inside the pump body and its not interrupt in the bag and not get any sand dirty. i also move it down that the hose will be much more close to the inflate area.

So what you thinking?
Hope you like it

Cheers,
Kob

i like it, how much air does it move per pump stroke. or does it work faster or slower than the common crap out there now?

Not gona work for so many reasons.
Hard to make seal last in corners.
One hand pumping :) most kiters look for easier pumping not harder.
Cannot fit snowboard boots into "hole"
Ever looked inside pump? Not a place to store anything.

Kiters need practical solution for pumping. Not cool looking designs :) try again...

yeah, other than the look it is nothing cool about it. you can not make reliable air tight rectangle shaft and piston.

Let's fix some dimensions. Call height 30cm, and rectangle top 10 by 5cm.

Volume is 1500.

Cylinder volume with fixed dimensions is about 2355cm cubed.

That's 57 percent more volume.

Plus the seal issues. But keep thinking, improbable possibles can lead to to great finds.

The inside and the shaft could be made oval shape. But I don't think it would be really possible to store the hose somewhere. Maybe mount some clamps on the side?

For the handle.... I don't think that you can give much force with the current shape. Should be wider.

Good concept though.

with the new materials available now may be it is possible to go back to bellow (double-bellow for double-stroke) type pumps?
that way piston seals friction will be eliminated...

Looks like a robot with a big wiener...just kidding

Seriously if you want my money focus less on cool and more on function. I want a pump that is taller, takes less pumps and has quality construction. looks mean jack to me.

Hi every one... its just a concept so open your mind :)
there is always lots of reasons way think are not working but there is always solutions for problems :)

RedStar, there is lots of square pumps in the market... you should check befor you been so sure.
and the volume is the same so its press the same press in to your kite.

i didnt got the think with the snow board boots... its for the beach man...

Faxie, as for the hose... i also know lots of bike pump that have hose that go into the body...its very easy and easy mechanism.

Matth, i like your imagination :) its need much more r&d for sure... but i doin it because i enjoy it... like kiting.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments, its just a concept and i think that the kite pump can get really improve from the place there are now.
I dont have any problem with the square shape im sure its can work (maybe in other scales and dimensional change)
ill try to improve it and upload some new version... i hope you will like that betere...

Cheers,

what does the inside of your concept look like?

i understand your reasoning, but would like to see how you intend to make the design functional.
