Simply because when it was really light (subten), it eventually ended up every time with a good swim-back-to-the-beach session. When it was about 10 gusting 12, for my 75 kgs. the 15 is enough to plane and I enjoy it till about 20, no need to change. The rule on our lake is: if it's really light, it's just impossible to kite. To be honest, in subten conditions there are sometimes the FS21 (with a very big TT or a raceboard) who ride and enjoy the day but since when it's really light it's easy to have "zero" moments, they swim too, not so often but it happens. For the moment, we have never seen a Chrono but there are two guys who are going to buy one. I think this summer we will for sure have a comparison between the Ozone and the FS.
Agree. I used my Edge 17m from 11 knots up to 23 knots. Below that no one was kiting. Now I have Chrono I can do 6-8 knots up to 20 knots safely. Yes can be lower than 6-8 but may drop out of sky and have a twisted kite in the water and a swim back if not careful. The best part is when it's 10-12 knots you are boosting way up and ripping upwind the sensation is unreal. So yes it is not needed to have a big kite but yes it is a lot of fun at the same time. Plus here we get a lot of 8-15 knot days so this kite fits the weather just right, and eats up any lulls.
What this kite gave me was;
1) Able to get an honest 5 knots on my low end over my 17m
2) Gets me upwind better than all my kites
3) Jumps very differently and high and long even in light winds.
Bad points;
1) Bridals are a pain in the ass
2) If lands in water there is a good chance it gets twisted
3) Not a kite to be practicing new tricks on.
This is just my opinion. I'm sure others have their own.
