TT Class, Weekend Warriors and Kite Kids Racing

The KTA Race Centre Project was set up in the wake of kiteboardings inclusion into the Olympic Games. We all know now sadly that was an all too fleeting experience as the powerful lobbies in sailing and windsurfing kicked back pushing kiteboarding back out of the hoped for 2016 Games appearances.

Down then but not out, not by a long way.

Formula racing as we know it with the performance race board designs has not seen the half expected decline without its Olympic target. In fact as the heavily over subscribed rider registration to the 2013 IKA World Championships in China hosted by the KTA proved the sport is still growing in strength and popularity the world over.

But it is not just the Formula Class that is enjoying this growth, other areas of racing are also progressing creating new classes, greater depth to the sport and more access and fun for riders of all shapes and sizes. As we hit the end of the 13/14 KTA Asia Tour season Foil Boards are just starting to make their mark, we expect to being seeing a lot more of them in Asia next season, but for now its the TT Class that has really blown the lid off the race scene.

The IKA and KTA finally gained full recognition for the TT racers in November last year and the KTA has been the first to be able to run world ranking races as an outcome of this. The TT Class for the KTA has always seen its biggest rider participation at any event it appears in and as a result the top end of the fleet is already competing at a high level with cutting edge equipment. In light of this an ever keen to keep TT as a all comers race event the Weekend Warriors version of the class is keeping the have a go for the fun of it element of the sport alive and well.

TT

TT is also the perfect entry point for younger riders for whom the size and cost of formula or foil boards puts them out of reach, but TT is the perfect proving ground for the young guns. All of which was perfectly demonstrated at this season KTA finals in Boracay when all four races classes were in action during the event – Fomula, TT, Weekend Warriors and Kite Kids Racing
