Backroll question

Postby kiteontario » Thu Sep 12, 2013 11:42 pm

Before attempting to learn a backroll, is it recommended to master popping? Or just go for it?

Get any good dvd like the 'progression' series that explains it step by step - youll understand whats goin on and learn that and other tricks faster !!
Bad advice that sounds great - can bust you up...
My second trik after the backroll was backroll kiteloop.
Yeah just jump high, roll & pull the back hand, they said :)
10m 25knots = big smile before total Apocolypse ;)

go for it. you will be amazed how easy it is! Just need to kick yourself in the butt!

But:

- take your biggest kite in light wind
- set the bar and trim to slow
- have BOTH hands next to the center of the bar
- pop off and pull a bit on the bar with both hands same time and same pressure
- throw your head and shoulder back and bam, you nailed it :thumb:
- just make sure to put weight on your back foot when landing!

I find it's much easier to do them going off a small wave face when learning.
Good luck!

Just give it a bash dude. Off a knee high wave. DONT pull in on your back hand by accident. Hehe.

Thanks for all the responses and encouragement. I have understood that it's best to keep hands close to the centre of the bar to avoid unwanted steering, and so I've been practicing riding that way. Good tips!

Look up load and release by the guys at learn wake they will explain how to get a propper pop.

Backrolls are easy just edge hard and fast upwind out of the water while looking over your back shoulder. Spot your landing and pull to your front hip to stop your rotation.
