SOME OF THE BEST KITERS, WINDSURFERS & SAILORS GATHERED IN LAKE SILVAPLANA FOR ENGADINWIND BEST OF THREE

Lake Silvaplana in Switzerland hosted some of the best kiters, sailors and windsurfers for the intriguing cross discipline mix called "the Best of three", an event that’s been hosted so successfully for the past few years.

After a few days of heavy rain and no wind, everyone was keen to head out on the water for some action. The Swiss windsurf Championship is already on its second day with no racing and today it was also the first day for the best of 3 competition, an event organized for the past 3 years which attracts some of the legends of their sports from around the world.

So far kitesurfers have dominated during the past 2 years of this event, mostly because of their speed and skill in course racing. But this class has advantages and disadvantages depending on the weather and the type of racing. In the Best of Three, having a speed race event, a slalom event and a course racing event opens up the chances for windsurfers and sailors.

In 2013 the Italian rider Simone Vanucci won the overall and along with Steph Bridge and her son Oliver established kiters in the top spot. But it’s yet to be seen who is going to take the trophy this year.

Unfortunately, the low winds didn't allow athletes to compete as they had planned to, but the natural beauty of this magnificent scenery in Lake Silvaplana was a big compensation for their travel to Switzerland.

Here you can view the video with highlights from Lake Silvaplana and interviews of the protagonists:
