I loaned my 23 year old daughter some 2013 Kahoona kites. However, the Redline bar has a very long chicken loop, so much so that she can't depower the kite much. We tried an Ozone bar and it was better she could depower the kite adequately, but reaching the depower strap was not possible. I am looking for a bar that has a short chicken loop and below the bar depower (line lengths should be even). I appreciate your help!

One thing you might also look at is using a bar with an adjustable de-power cleat position. I know North, Core and Switch all make bars like this but I'm sure there are more.

You can shorten the throw with the 2014 best bar, they moved to a clamcleat that is adjustable

A 5'3" girl use to borrow my Ozone Edge 11 and 13 M ; she had very
short arms. She didn't have a hook on her spreader bar ; instead she
would hook in Above the chicken loop on my kite, with the devise pictured below.

Later i started doing the same, and was able to Lengthen my bar's
travel by 2" ; i made a longer 8mm cord and got rid of the chicken loop
and spreader hook, altogether. I might go back to that system ; carrying a water-bottle
to rinse the sand off at launch, wasn't much hassle .

You may also want to consider using a seat harness. Keeps the hook much lower and never rides up.

Agree, seat harness adds several inches of bar throw.

I think some chicken loops are set up so you can cut them shorter. Not sure if the best one is like that or not.

If she has short but STRONG arms, then you could go with an old Crossbow bar that had the pullys on the back lines, so that the "throw" distance was shortened by about one half.

If she never "unhooks", then there is little reason for using a conventional chicken loop, and she could use a "shackle" tied to the bar, after the hook is hacksawed off... and substitute a small ring for the chicken loop.

If you can't find a "conventional" bar set-up to decrease the "throw" enough, then you could always get an old twin-tip board with a narrow tail. That is what we had to use before 2005, when kites became "depowerable", and allowed the kiter to sink the tail and control the power of the kite.

You may find that the length of the "throw" is determined by the design of the kite, as much as the design of the bar... so you might have to go to a different kite...

Think of the fun you (she) will have shopping... a new kite, a new bar, a new harness, a new board... all color coordinated. Ha, ha

I would just use that ozone bar. tie a very short pigtail to the depower rope so short arms can reach it

Yahoo for the Seat harness. WAY easier on the back and a lady may not like it riding up so high. Depower is def closer with a seat harness. I'm 6' 4 with long arms and I can notice the diff. Just my 2-4 nuts/Cents!
