Bleach does nothing for rust, nothing.
It can be hell on synthetic fibers though.

Salt and lemon juice,

Wet the area with lemon juice and rub in a little salt and leave it on on there until stain has disappeared, you may have to aggetate it once in awhile..

i did a kite and it took about half an hour to clear the rust stain, I watched it just to make sure it would not damage the cloth but it was all good.

It is bloody amazing.

WjM wrote:Phosphoric acid! No damage to canopy and works a treat. You can use the stain devil for removing rust from clothing which is comercially available or get a weak solution of a phosphoric acid from a drug store. It has absolutely no damaging effect on the kite. The plus part is that you do not have to rub the canopy. The detergent suggestion is not a runner due to discolouration from friction and the detergent particles. It is really easy to clean. Apply the acid and wait 30/60 seconds rinse well with fresh water and if there are any remaining persistant stains, repeat the process.

Good luck, it is an easy fix....

WjM....
How weak should the solution of a phosphoric acid be?
