Hard to tell the shape from the picture but maybe teflon tape on it would help?

Teflon tape would last about 10 seconds. If they do a good job polishing up the stainless there shouldn't be any significant wear on the rope. I'd totally try one of those. My homebrew bar works great, but I'd love to be able to get a new bar and still have all the lovely benefits of my setup, but with new gear.

Not talking about plumbers teflon tape. They make a fiberglass backed teflon tape that seems like it would work.

after reviewing all the pictures I came up with this version. I removed the plastic and rope from the chicken loop then used two pigtails.

You have inappropriately used the low friction ring, at least as far as it's designed. Your relying on it for tensile strength as a link, and it is made of aluminum and not strong enough for that purpose. It was designed to lower friction under compressive loads only. It is meant to be a barrier between two ropes, not a link. The pigtails on your CL release should be running around the outer circumference of the ring in the purpose made groove, not through it. It's a beefy ring, and will likely hold for some time but eventually it will crack and fail.

thanks Starky for the feed back. I have been using the ring for a year. With the chicken loop thru and around the ring but my goal is to get the bar closer. I will keep an eye on the ring if is showing cracks. I kite surf on waves or bay waves. It is just pulling me and not supporting my weight. I don't use this set up if I want to jump. The ring is holding so far. cheers

You could rig it using the ring as designed and not sacrifice any length on what you have pictured.

More importantly, how do you totally detach yourself from the kite. Looks like you are tied to the flag line after QR by the pigtails?
