wanted to share with u my friend's project.
He is turning old kites and sails into bags, back packs, etc. A way to give a new life to old kites by recycling them into something cool.
they are launching in San Francisco, CA, USA and looking for some support either kites, or backers
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/16 ... mafia-bags
their website
http://www.mafiabags.com/
https://www.facebook.com/MafiaBags
If u like the idea and want to be a part, u can donate any old/warranted/prototypes kites that u wanna get rid off just contact them about donating.
they have set up a UPS account so anyone can send them their kites for free, they pay for shipping.
if u dig it feel free to share it on your facebook wall.
Thanks for the support

Nice.
I'm going to dig up my old windsurf sail and kites for them. Good luck!

So is this a charity project or do we "donate" kites so your mate can then make money from them?

Looking at the website, it sounds like the latter.

THey are selling the residual products and at hefty prices. Its a for profit organization not a charity. I suppose there is a small amount of feel good merit in that you are recycling.
Personally, if I end up with a old used kite I cannot sell, I'd use the bladder material as spare parts and the canopy material for a home made tent/outdoor canvas. At the least, it would make a great TARP since its made from the same materials used in tarps (and is higher end too!)

My idea is better you send me kites damaged beyond reasonable cost of repair and I fix them for free and donate them to Cuban riders. So far I do it locally but if you want to ship go ahead I have a CDN & US address

actually they are working with organizations to hire people in need and support the local industry in America, instead of having everything made overseas and shipping things back and forward.
its a good idea for things that sometimes are left behind like old kites
