Opinions/Reviews - 2014 Naish Global

Postby windtzu » Mon Jul 14, 2014 7:16 pm

Have a 2010 Naish Global 5'7. It's useful life may be one more season at best. Love the board. Wondering if anyone has any feedback on the 014's, compare-contrast?

My 2010 is a quad and for better or worse, I like it's performance and wouldn't change a thing - smooth in chop, fast, controlled, and a rocket upwind. The new Globals are tri fin. Does the tri give up anything to the quad in terms of upwind ability, grip?

Looking at the 5'8 Global.

If it's cost effective, I may consider having a local shaper make an epoxy copy of my Global 5'7, with the necessary reinforcements of course.

Thanks!

I have the large version of the global. I love it. It is a lot lighter, but still have the high level of control. I think the tail rocker is increased and it make for great spray off the top :-)

I like the quad as well, but think the thruster is great on this version. Reminds me of my old m10...which is a good thing.

Well I have the 2013... Not the 2014, maybe taut' can comment on any differences between these two years for me.

I tested a lot of SBs over a few years until I settled on the global. It's not light, but bomb proof build. For me it's 'tight' enough on the 5 8' to not bounce around when tacking upwind, but still has enough to kill the kite, get deep in a pocket and ride the wave. Best ridden strapless or at least without the back strap. Love the board.

Yeah too me the newer is just a bit lighter. I think they worked a lot on construction so it should still be solid. It rides a lot like the last years on a thruster setup, feels like it releases a bit easier off the top...with more spray :-)

The reason I went with the bigger board was really because it was lighter so I felt I could get the same agility out of a bigger board. I dunno to what extent that was the right guesstimation, but I've gained weight too so I guess it will work it self out.
