What I enjoying at the moment is riding as fats as possible in the waves.

Ideally i find a peeling wave that then jacks up for 100m or so with random breaking sections. In the perfect world a little cross off wind.

You then rip down the line doing big fast carves diving below breaking sections to link up new forming sections. Speed is the key!

hmmmmmmmmmm fun.

Not for me man. All that paddling and waiting just for a few seconds of fun then a whole lot more paddling and waiting again. You can keep the surfing. The fun to effort ratio if far too low for me

In order of fastest on wave I think it goes Windsurfer, surfer, kiter. Kites just don't work on fast waves, see Ben Wilson on cloud break, surfers are faster, but windsurfers are the only thing I have seen out pace the wave ( when it's big that is).

The rhythm of surfing is way better than kiting and has a more direct connection to the wave's energy.
Its more social. Relaxing in between sets with your buddys, watching each other drop in. Taking a breather. The pace is more balanced. Plus the drops are 100x more exciting than the Pinocchio deal with the lines and kites. The rides are longer with the kite training wheels for sure but you cant carve as hard and I find there is less freedom being Mary Poppins.

Not just riding fast downwind, but upwind is a big help.
Surfers and windsurfers can do that but the upwind part still hasn't been cracked for kiting yet.

A poor quality recording, but you can see how maneuverable he is along the wave.

Each to there own i guess. I'll give you the social aspect and the fact that you can surf a wave like a surfer without a kite.

But why would I want to? I'm a kitesurfer. I want to ride a wave like a kiter. In my mind its way more fun. If i want to go chilled and slow i let go of the bar completely and cruise down the wave like surfer. Most of the time I want to be going faster than what the wave can push me along. I much more enjoy the feeling of combining the power of the wave and the kite together.

But I am not a surfer and never will be.
