Rope OK for jumping?

It realy depends on how long the rope is. If its to short you will get very un-balanced in the air and the CL will tend to be on either far side and NEVER in the middle (where the Original hook is).

bc-sf, the 13" is for M harness And up and the 11" is for M and down. Last night i got an hour and 45 on the wave pro (bar) and loved it!! I have the 13" set running on that harness... I thought it felt real stable and smooth at al points from riding toe side to small strapless airs... I should get them up in the product page for www.AtlanticKiteboarding.com today or tomorrow. The only draw back is when riding a twin iike to unhook and i have already decided i will need two harnesses... One with the slider and one set regular......

I've never had a problem jumping with rope only.
It does take a session or two to get used to, but once I figured it out I never went back.
When I'm riding the only time the rope is fully at one end or the other is when I'm riding toe-side.

It's easy to try out, it could be the best $20 you'll ever spend kiting. Just get some strong climbing cord, and a carabiner and go for it. I use a locking carabiner and lock it while riding to prevent it from ever accidentally catching a line.

On one of my bars, with a very simple release mechanism, I've replaced the chicken loop with a carabiner, so I have a shorter throw.

That sounds exactly like my setup. Works great for the intended use. When I pull the bar all the way down, it is about 15 cm from the sliding rope, so it is a very compact system.

I might have given wrong impression...I use rope but didn't get rid of bungee...I wore out bungee and replaced it with elastic shock cord. I don't think bungee is really all that important, as shown by all the diy rope setups without it....but it does help a little I figure.

Jumping...I am no big air master, but jump fine with rope.

Replacing chicken loop with carabiner...I have been thinking about this, as an option to bring the bar and sweet spot a little closer and gain some extra throw (along the lines of the BRM new bar in another thread). Need to figure out a quick release though.

I've got a diy that is very similar.. actually using the same hook. I use amsteel 3/8 and made a large soft shackle. I replace it three times a year or so. Cost is about 4-5$ to replace and 5 minutes to make and another 5 to install. Will never go back. I use a bungee so I can unhook easily. Jumping is fine for me and not awkward but I do pretty basic jumps.

I finally upgraded from my old dynabar which only option was the metal bar. It was welded on. I got the v7 xw now which only has the rope. It is much smoother. It jumps good. I left the bungee on it. It doesnt bother me. It doesnt have any resistance like the bar did. Took a minute to get used to but ill never go back.

Thanks all... Where we are, there are no sailing or climbing stores. Might be an eBay jobbie for a DIY test - good use for the broken Dakine bars - but a nice proper one might be there best thing....
