With the latest and most serious injury to date I am starting to think we need a strap release similar to the one found in ski bindings. Too many injuries. I know personally two people who got injured and want touch straps and heard numerous other stories. The latest one is over the top ending in amputation. I think it's time and it is doable.

Snowboards and wakeboards don't have releases. If only one foot releases that could lead to more injuries.

If one ski releases it can cause an injury too that's why they have force settings. Snow board probably doesn't need it but with water even short board can produce the twisting force strong enough to tear everything at the knee.

Well you could just use straps instead of trapping your feet in wakestyle boots...
But it's an interesting idea. I'd be concerned with corrosion of the release mechanism. Also, for skis (and snowboards when they have tried the same idea) you stomp on the binding to engage it. How would you get enough force to put your board back on while in the water? That would be a very tricky design challenge, for sure.

having release bindings is possibly the worse idea, unless you can garentee that both boots will always release at the exact same time.
otherwise you will get more broken knees. one foot coming out of the binding, or screws coming loose on one side is always my biggest nightmare.

I am not talking boots at all I don't use them. The guy just lost his leg using straps not boots and countless others got injured. I am thinking about straps release. It could be as simple as different strength fasteners for different rider weight. I am trying to brainstorm here so if you don't have ideas at least don't kill other people ideas. If you don't think it is a problem after so many injuries I don't know what to say.

I usually use heel straps and on a rare occasion one foot would come out, getting the other out when the board is behind you is always a pain.

How did that happen?
I keep my straps loose enough that my foot can spin completely inside it. I think that helps a lot.

Friend of mine had some horizontal speed left coming out of the loop caught a top of the wave on the way and his leg got bent the wrong way ripping the ACL completely. The guy who lost his leg must have ripped everything and it had to be amputated at the knee .

sounds like you should ride boots, so that doesn't happen
