Rebel 11m or 12m for 70kg?

Postby 1968 » Thu Sep 04, 2014 7:20 pm

Hey,

I have the 2014 Rebels in 7 and 9m and I want to buy a bigger one. But Im not sure if I should go for 11 or 12. How much faster does the 11 turn compared to the 12 and how much more lowend does the 12 have vs the 11? What would you recommend for 70kg on a tt?

Thanks,
K.

IMO, the 11m is awesome and the 12m is a pig. 11m turns and feels very similar to the 10, but with just a little more power, yet it still feels like a small-mid sized kite. The 12 turns slowly, pulls very hard, albeit downwind, and has more bar pressure. 11 is my largest and I'd love to get a bigger kite, but cannot deal with the characteristics of 12 and higher Rebels.

Understand I have not yet tried the 2015s.

I think the 11m would be fine for you, I have the same kites but I'm nearly 90Kg and ride tt and surfboards. Never tested the 11m but I'd second ThickAir's review
If you are into airs or need more low end the 12m would perhaps be a better choice, otherwise I'd go for the 11m

What year 11m and 12m did you try thickair?

My current quiver is:
7m 2011 rebel
9m 2012 fuse
11m 2011 rebel
13m 2012 Edge
19m 2013 Edge

Was thinking of selling 11m rebel and 13m edge to replace with 12m rebel, but maybe thats not such a good idea. I used to have a 2013 14m Rebel that I didnt like much. I thought that was because of the changes to the 2013 rebel, but maybe it was just because big rebels arent as good. Hmmm...

I have owned Rebels every year since they were released in 2007. Just recently again thought I'd try to make a 12m work. I REALLY want to like this kite, but it just feels terrible to me. I have 11m from 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Recently tried 12m from 2012, 2013, 2014.

Maybe the 2015 is improved, but I'm not holding my breath.

Well I've been on the 12m 2015 for a few lighter sessions, a 20 to 25 days may occur Tomoz. I have found it quite nimble compared to the 2012 11m is used to ride. Well as good anyway. It's all such small measured degrees of change though. It depends. On what you want though, I'm trying to slow the thing down! I still maintain it's a hooked in freeride kite at its best for jumping in highly powered conditions becuase of its inherent canopy stability. I've never agreed with it's all round tag, much better kites even within the north range for that.
