Anyone riding really small surfboards?

6'1" ride a 5'4" F-One Bamboo Fish. Love it to bits!!!!!

Quite wide and very flat rocker. You have to be very positive in your technique to gets good carve on a wave. But, it's blindingly fast and charges upwind.

Nice. 6'1" on a 5'4" that's close to my 6'4" and 5'4" board.

Some info on the Vanguard nose from a credible source. Not just another surfboard with the nose cut off. There's a method to his madness and fortunately we are benefiting from it in kiting.

I would think if some of the top pro surfers in the world are either riding the Vanguard (Stu Kennedy) or trying them (Filipe Toledo) they would be worth a go with a kite. They are intended to be ridden short, and have incredible control. At 170lb a 5'0" is gold. Pretty sure a 4'10" would be better but haven't wanted to get of the 5'0" long enough to try it.

I am 6'3 and 240 and ride 5'6 Cabrinha Secret Weapon most of the time and love it.

yea, riding the bigger board thruster and strapless with small kite
riding the little board quad with straps and plenty of kite power
very different ride and feel, might as well be different sports
one is surfing with a kite
the other is kitesurfing, doing things you can not do the other way
both really fun depending upon wind/water conditions and mood

I ride a 4'10" x 18" tri-fin custom board built by veteran Canadian shaper Lee Brittain. Designed as a small travel surf board (it fits in a "golf" bag), it's pretty much the only board I have ridden for the last 4 years.

As it has a flattish rocker line it plans up early in spite of its small size. I can use it from 12 knots up to over 30 knots. I generally use it with a 3 strap configuration which allows for more comfortable riding & jumping than a 2 strap set up & better control & efficiency than strapless. I only actually use the rear strap for jumping. Compared to most directionals, jumping is a blast because of its compact size & light weight.

The downside of a board like this, is it's too small & fast for larger waves, but for smaller waves & general bump & jump conditions it's the perfect "all-round" directional board, IMO - sort of a cross between an old-style, small directional & a surf board.
