a canon xl1 480p from 20 years ago looks way better than a go pro in low light.

Umm.........wrong.

The new 4's lowlight picture quality is GREATLY improved. It's quite excellent now.

Will I need a new computer to view the 4k video?

Ha! That's a good point. We have this great 4K capability and I don't think I own anything that I could watch it on. Good thing is you get a lot more pixels to play with so you can zoom and straighten in post production and still end up with a product that isn't pixelated. ;)

Yes, I understand about the value of the ~2x pixels to play with for zoom, etc. But I still wonder if/how my computer will handle it. It's a good machine, but a couple of years old now.

Has anyone used the camera?
How is the new remote?
Is the range and reliability any better?

I have used hero 4 silver this weekend and made the following video.
Can't comment on remote but I have used the android app to control it and it is pretty neat, it shows almost no lag in video feed.

That's my 12th session kiteboarding so you won't see crazy tricks, but you will get an idea of the conditions in New York last Sunday.

Bandit 7 12m. 10 to 20knots
