I wanted to write this review for bad asses like me who are searching for a kite with more performance/ different performance than their current kites are offering. I know there are many options out there, but if you're like me, getting your hands on a demo is no easy task...even if you are a bad ass. Some times you have to say f*** it, and put your money on black. So here we go.
Background- I consider myself as an intermediate who has been kiting for 2.5 years. I can do double front and back rolls both directions as well as back roll transitions, board grabs, and pussy loops. I currently fly a 12 rebel , 9naish charger, 17 flite.
I really enjoy flying the kite, so I wanted a faster tighter turning one. At first, I was torn between a razor, dice, rpm , vegas and slightly interested in the core. Why slightly? Glad you asked. Volkswagen... I've known a lot of people that have owned a Volkswagen and bottom line is they are pieces of shit. So between that, WWII, and SupaEZ I've decided to scratch core off the list.
I chose the razor due to a combination of things;
1) ocean rodeo has great customer service. They answered every single email usually within hours. I had a lot of questions due to the lack of reviews on this kite.
2)They have 30 day return policy as well.
3)The flite is a great kite.
5) Maple fucking syrup
Review- Disclaimers- I've only had two sessions consisting of 12 hours.
Winds were 14-17mph on the first day. I had been riding my 12m rebel for about an hour paired with my lite wave wing. I couldn't resist the urge to fly my new 10m razor. As I was pumping up I received some very questioning looks from fellow kite boarders on every pass. I drift launched the kite, but it took me a few minutes to get it launched. Not quite as easy as my other kites. As soon as I get it up I feel the power and speed. To my surprise, I was easily able to get up on plane using my 146 lite wave wing. Yes, I had to work the kite a bit,and at times I was underpowered, but this kite was so fun to fly. The wind started to average out around 16mph which led to me trying a backroll/kiteloop. I'm not sure if I've previously been looping too low or what, but this time when i looped i was pulled so much harder than any other kite which fucking slammed me into the water very hard. I was impressed at once. The rest of the day I worked on sended loops? the rest of the day to try and adjust to the yanking power of this kite.By the way, every other kiter was on at least a 14.
Day two. Slightly better conditions. 15-20mph 16.5 average I didnt even think about the 12 rebel. I went straight for the 10 razor and lite wave wing first. Which is kind of funny. I've always thought of that as a light wind board but it rockets me upwind and enables me to do 2-3 loops a tack opposite of the 2-3 tacks per loop on my 140 custom. Now, I think I would rather board up and fly a smaller kite. Litewave Dave...... I need a 137 wing......help a don't say that out.
Sorry, got side tracked.
On the second day, after the adjustments to the increased power of the loops I was landing 85% of my loops. The local photographer asked if there was something wrong with my kite because of how hard/far I was getting yanked horizontally. This kite is a fucking blast. Scary fun. Which is exactly what I was looking for. After getting punished on the first day, I realized it was much easier to reverse launch this kite. A little tug on both rear lines and this kite pops off the water.
I've run out of time tor the moment, but I'll be happy to answer any q's I can.
If you want a kite that has balls and doesn't lick them, this is your kite.
