Extreme itch due to wetsuit? Fresh water? red dry blotches..

Thanks. How do they do neoprene and lining patch testing? Simply cut small piece, put it on the skin, cover with metal plate and leave for few days on the skin?

Yes pretty much. It is important to leave it on for at least 48 hours and watch for reaction up to 72 hours. This is not common, my doctor happened to have a cottage beside our place so he knew how important finding a wetsuit I could wear was so he was willing to work it in with the standard tests... not that you couldn't do it on your own... if you happen to have a few days that you can avoid showering... I tested 3 different types of Neoprene... standard, limestone and ulex, limestone reacted the most, then standard and no reaction to the ulex.

I'm happy to say that whatever was on the surface layer of the hyperflex wetsuit interior has mostly settled out, though I still occasionally get some mild irritation when my harness is loose and causing some rubbing. I picked up a 1mil neoprene top, and that really helped - it's a much better barrier than a rashguard. Suit is still holding up well otherwise.

Which Hyperflex suit?

I have Woodoo 3/2 and no problems with a rash.

Third wetsuit tho, never any issues with neil p., and Switch (5/4).

I Always wash them in water and drop of white cleaning vinegar.

Sulphur allergies can be a problem with contact on rubber and glues used in wetsuits (sulphur is used in the production of rubber, glues, also plastics). Benadryl pills, cream, or roll on liquid can help stop itching.

I had a switch wetsuit back in the day. I did not react either but that was before my first reaction to the Hyperflex... I may just be hypersensitive now because of it...
Anyhow, Switch has not sold wetsuits for probably 4 years now?

The Yulex thing is really interesting. Yulex is actually not the name of the rubber but the name of the company. The rubber is called "guayule" (Parthenium argentatum). It has a lot going for it. It is a non food source that basically grows and can be cultivated in the desert requiring little water. Native to US Southwest and Mexico. As mentioned it is hypoallergenic and can be used as an alternative to latex. Besides not requiring petroleum the process is also much cleaner for the environment. Reading some of the Patagonia reviews on Surfline, the performance is there as well.

I have also tested positive for diethyltiourea allergy. I hav tested patches of yulex and it seems to work for me
