I've had a few different weather stations, mine is set up at about 25 feet above ground level, and 30 yards from the ocean. We have salt, blowing dust, hurricanes, etc. The Davis Vantage Pro 2 is the only one that has held up. Mine has been running for 5 years.

I had the Vantage Vue and it only lasted about a year before it failed.

Also, a nice feature about the pro is that the wind sensor can mount seperately from the station, giving you the ability to get it higher and away from building turbulance.

I would tend to agree with this
Salt kills them!
Even the Davis units seem to die after 2-3 years, usually the anemometer hall switch or the temp sender
I would be interested to see how well an ultrasonic anemometer lasted.
