Guys, do you think that a kite will preform differently depending on the position of the "Y" splitter for the front lines?
I have North Dyno's and Ozone. The Ozone Edge (native) has a lower Y-splitter. I was thinking of converting my 2012 bar into a four line and running the Edge from this config.
I reason is the micro loop I want to run the micro loop with the Edge. If It makes no difference with a simple mod I can have a 5th line flag out and the micro loop all in one!
What do you think? Bad Idea?

Yes it can make a difference, my Torches do not fly well on a North bar, only difference is the Y.
But I believe all kites will react differently, easy way to find out though just try it!!

a y front line is used to keep more pressure on the wing tips, which helps faster turning, but not all kites are designed to need the added pressure. changing a y to a v can sometimes work to tame a kite but it doesn't always work the other way around

According to Ken Winner:
When the Y is too high all kites turn less responsive

So why don't North put it all the way down, just above the depower line?

because the single frontline safety lines length depends on the height of the Y.
the higher the Y, the longer is the safety line, the better kite flags out.
besides Y height effect on kites turning responsiveness is probably the least influential among the other kite and bridle properties

Ok... I know Airush (probably others too) has it just above the depower strap and is single line flag out safety.
I really prefer the low Y because it's super easy to see how to untwist the front lines, rather than meters overhead.

Well I gave it a try yesterday.
I could not really see any difference in the turning. But it defiantly de-powered the kite. I'm guessing by bring in the front bridles to such a tight "y" it lowered the angle off attack and took some of the power out of the kite. It seemed to fly normal in all other aspects just less power.
But If you lower the angle of attack from the front the back lines should have more slack making the kite in theory turn slower.
Back to the drawing board....

I personally hate the "high Y" , mainly because you just can't self land your kite safely.
All kites fly and perform just fine with the "low Y" and are simple and safe to land.
I think there is a design flaw in kites , if they need the high y, .. why give up safety for minimum performance increase?
I use the naish bar on North and naish kites... both work just fine...and I can self land all the time, either direction. Go figure
High Y no waY

a higher Y line has to travel a longer distance to the kite, effectively shorting the font lines. just add a 1 inch pigtail or shorten the back lines by the same and the difference will be unnoticeable by most of us. it is not really the pinching, it is simply(mostly) the length change.
yes, from experience, YMMV if you are designer/tester.
