I couldn't watch the end of the video. It's so tragic to have this happen.

My condolences to the family and friends.

What a terrible accident and horrific to watch. I hope his parents find peace in the aftermath of this awful accident.

It bears a number of similarities to Steve Edeiken's terrible accident with the kite he designed and was launching in 1983. More at http://www.fksa.org/showthread.php?t=5085

It's one of the reasons i get so bent out of shape ; when i see kite boarders out
on the water , (With NO Leash) !! :angryfire:

I bin the recipient of (3) run away kites in 13 years . I ain't very Lucky, (lost my legs) ,
so ------ sooner or later
a kite line from a ditched kite ; it's gonna wrap around my neck and :
Bille is Gone.

There is NO reason , for that Lil kid, to have to Die like that !!

Very sad for the boy, his family and everybody at the festival.

To be clear, its not a traction kite, but a very giant kite similar to the big flag kites Peter Lynn made. The news was probably correct when they describe an 15 meter wingspan. It could have been a 150 sq/m kite?

Dave Gomberg of the AKA and Peter Lynn prepared:

"Safe Flying Of Large Kites At Kite Festivals
Some Comments By Peter Lynn"

http://www.gombergkites.com/faq/faq-s.html

As JakeMoore said, this accident had nothing to do with kiteboarding, kiteboarding kites, gear but was a tragedy involving a very large ram kite for demonstration purposes only. Ideas on how to avoid repetition appear at the link above.
