kiteboard size

Postby nafets » Wed Jun 10, 2015 2:14 am

Hello guys,

I plan on getting a kiteboard but I do not know what size I should be looking for. I have lots of previous experience in snowboarding and wakeboarding. I currently have a 12m ozone catalyst and I weigh around 87kg.

I know wind speed should also be taken into account, but since I do not have much experience, lets just say it would be light to medium for the 12m kite.

I was looking for a 140cm kiteboard, but there are much better deals for a 135cm boards. What do you suggest?

I also found a pretty good deal for a new Nobile 2012 board, 134cm-41cm. Would that board fit me?

I am also concerned that If i get a larger one, I would outgrow it pretty fast.

Thanks!

134 would be too small for your weight in moderate wind especially as a beginner. A bigger board will be useful in the future as a light wind board.

How much bigger?

Also, I wear size 13 shoes. Are the foot straps one size fits all, or? :)

There are some small foot straps out there on used boards, I bought one that had straps too small for my size 11 feet. 13 might be pushing the limit on many straps especially if you have to wear booties.

Hard for me to say what size would be ideal for you, I'm about 80 kg and ride a 132 x 41 in wind over 15 mph and a 145 x 44 Rayo in lighter wind. But I see guys your size on monster boards like the Spleene Door in light winds.

Unfortunately I am looking for a used board, and the choice is pretty limited :/

I would say 135 is too small for you. Im 75kg and ride boards between 135 -139.
Check out north kiteboarding's website...they have board size charts over there. You might get some idea what size fit you best.

Width and board shape is more important than length for planning and light wind ability.
If there's a local shop to consult with its your best bet..
Im ~80kg and started with a 41cm flattish board and it was fine.
I think you should look for a 42cm width board with good planning ability.
imho buying a door to start with and selling It later is money lost and a headache... I'd rather struggle first few sessions on the "right" board and keep it for a year+...

You could find a used Stylus,,or a Crazyfly All ARound, Cruiser pro, litewave Wing, Ocean Rodeo Origin, and other large light wind boards that are not as big and boring as a true door style board but will still get you going early. And be much easier to learn on. Check Ikitesurf Classified section, or websites for deals.

I kitesurf is pretty much limited to the US. Over here I'm having some trouble finding the right board :/

Also, the closest kiteshop is about 4hrs drive :D
