Switch Bar Compatibility? Cabrinha + RRD

Postby PeterB » Thu Jul 23, 2015 8:23 pm

Yo,

Just ordered a brand new switch bar.

Standard setup flags on a single centre line? (Correct me if I am wrong please).

Will this mean it can be used completely fine, (standard setup), with a:

a) Cabrinha Switchblade 2011?
b) RRD Obsession 2010?

Not sure how the respective kites flag out; please enlighten me!

A bar with a single-line flag system will usually work fine with a kite designed to flag onto 2 lines like the two kites that you're flying. The opposite is incompatible (2-line flag system w single-line bridle design).
You didn't mention the kite sizes. The Switch bar can be adjusted from 45-55cm in width. RRD's bar can be adjusted from 45-56cm, so the Switch bar being almost identical will work fine no matter what size RRD kite you have.
If your Cab size is best flown on a 48cm setting, then the 45cm setting will feel less responsive. The 55cm setting will be way more responsive (maybe too much). If your Cab is best flown on a 42cm bar, the 45cm setting will also make it more responsive. If your Cab is best flown on the 55cm setting, then the Switch bar set at 55cm will work out perfectly. Enjoy!

Excellent answer! Thanks!

The rrd is 7m and cab 10m. I used to run them on a core bar, mini 5th flag and highish v split.

Any ideas how will the v split difference influence the characteristic of the kite?

No idea. That's where you may have to experiment. From what I know, the Switch bar's V point can be adjusted. Since the RRD and Cab have high V points, I'd start at the highest setting and go down from there until it feels "right".
I do know some that fly RRD and North kites with low-V bars and have reported zero issues with how it affected the characteristics.

I tried my 17m RRD emotion on a low v split bar and it seemed to turn slower than with the high split RRD bar.
I suspect the high split pulls the bridle pullies in a bit so helping it turn with the use of a bit of front line as well as the rears.

I now use my switch controller 2 with my old 2010 Cabrinha switchblade (8,10,12mtr) kites and love it.

Feels better if anything in my opinion, but my old Cabrinha bars are all in very used condition.

Incorrect! the 2015 Switch bar DOES NOT flag onto a single line.

Again just so I'm very clear, the 2015 Controller 2 bar does not flag onto a single line.

Try it.

V point can't be changed.
Okay, how does it flag then?

As the website states "instant 100% flag option using either the single front or optional 5th line system"?!

Thanks

What are you talking about? Have you used a new Switch bar before? The bar comes set up to flag onto a single line but it can be modified to flag onto both or a fifth line. Check out the instruction video and bar manual on their website.
