Nugget? 2013 vs 2014?

Postby Strekke » Mon Aug 17, 2015 10:04 am

2 days ago it was pretty light, on/side-on breeze, but had nothing else to do so optimistically rigged my 12m 2015 Dice with 3m extensions on the lines for the first time. Took it out for a spin on my 2010 North WAM 5'10. WOW. It went waaaay better than expected, I was shooting 1km upwind out in the open while all others were messing around and barely holding ground on the beach. Only guy that seemed to have an even better upwind angle was a guy on a nugget-type board.

So that got me thinking:

- would a nugget (compared to my WAM) be a significant improvement? Already stoked with the results but if I can get going even earlier, hell yeah!

- if yes, which nugget would be the better choice: 2013, or 2014 (if 2014: what size for 75kg rider?)
I know there's already a few threads on the forum about the nuggets, but maybe there's some more peeps now who can compare 2013-2014 in terms of:
- upwind ability
- low end / early planning
- acceleration / speed (my Dice likes apparant wind)
- handling chop / bouncy-ness (it gets pretty choppy)
- overall feel / surfability

Thanks in advance for the info!

Hell yeah, the Nugget will piss all over your Wam in light wind - I now have the 5'2 2015 model & had a 5'0 2013 previous. To be honest im still not sure what board I prefer but there both great fun & light wind rippers - for your weight, look for a 5'0 2013 or 5'2 2014/15.

I recently bought a 5'2 nugget tt. The board is built like a tank and will definitely piss all over your wam.

Sweet, thanks for the reply. Can you elaborate on how the 2013 vs the 2015 compare?

I had my 2013 for a whole season & had many great sessions on it & I still think its most probobly the most fun board I have had to date but it started to de-lam under my front foot (only rode it strapless). So far I think the 2015 Nugget has the same bottom end as the 2013 but I have not had it in good conditions yet as its our off season in Australia, 2015 def feels heavier than the older model - hope its stronger.

I own a 2013 nugget which i liked very much ; VERY good low end ,fly upwind, good in small chop, very fun to ride ! The negative ; it is light which mean fragile ,but so far no problems...Guys told me that the 2015 5.2 is a better surfer, better top end ,more solid , not sure about the low end ...I liked the firewire similar model too ,look solid ! Good luck! :thumb:
