Anyone try the new Tona Pulse Surf boards?

Postby CaptainArgh » Thu Sep 03, 2015 5:06 pm

I have a Tona Flow that I really like. Love the performance, looks and durability.

Saw that they just came out with a Surf board (5'8" and 5'10"). Has anyone ridden it?
Was wondering if it is similar in performance to any other mainstream boards I may know and/or how it varies from the rest of the market?
Looks sharp, anyway!

The Pulse is Tona's debut surf-oriented board. Dereck's goal was to design a board that not only shines as a traditional surfboard, but excels on a kite as well. With its low rocker line, wide nose and forgiving rails, it really performs as a regular shortboard in small to mid-sized surf. Its also heaps of fun for kiting in the waves or just messing around with freestyle tricks in the junky shore break. The colorful graphics compliment its reinforced bamboo deck, and these bad boys are sure to turn heads when you whip them out at the beach.

5'10- Width 19.5" Thickness 2.25" Volume 25 litres

Saw one in person when I was in the OBX, but didn't get to ride it. Thing looks beautiful in person, supposed to be built for medium/smaller waves. I know Dereck's been shaping surfboards for a long long time, so I've got a feeling this one's gonna be a solid one.

Nice looking but basically the same boards, bigger difference in Dims to fit a larger audience, both are little dude boards :nono:

Hey CaptainArgh,

When we designed the Pulse we kept in mind that we wanted a shape that works well as a regular surfboard or as a kitesurf board. This is because we are surfers at heart and in the past I couldn't really surf my kitesurf boards because they were too heavy or just lacked performance in the Surf department, they seemed to need the power of a kite for them to work well.

After lots of prototyping and testing with and without a kite we've come up with the Pulse. Right at home in small to medium surf, the pulse is light under your feet, fast and snappy and it has a bamboo deck which gives it the strength to stand up to kiting but it's still light enough to paddle surf. It will come with a 5 box setup so you can ride it thruster or quad.

Thanks, Dre! Appreciate the feedback.

Do you think the 5'10" would work as a lighter wind board for larger guys? (180lbs.) I have a Tyrant that I use for bigger surf and winds, but am looking to replace my small wave, light wind setup.

Love the design, nice job from Tona team! But my next board is Vader :)

Coming back to Pulse, more info on durability would be nice. Kitesurf boards are breaking very fast.

Cap- im 190 and use 5'10"s i love that size. However, in light wind they dont have enough volume usually or have too much rocker for me. Regardless...these boards are beautiful.

Does anyone know what happened to to Tona Pulse boards production/sales?

Those are not on Tona's site anymore, and very hard to find anywhere...
