Which kites 4 me?

Postby dragnfly » Fri Oct 02, 2015 10:21 am

I'm sure this has been covered already but I'm feeling lazy today.

I'm currently riding a C bridled kite which I am not feeling the love for. I like the speed of the kite, but the hangtime on it is rubbish, and I drop really fast, to the extent that I think I've developed a bad back from so many heavy landings.

I'm looking for a kite that will be good at the following (aren't we all).

Freestyle 60% (ie/ hooked stuff, front rolls, back rolls etc)
Kiteloops 20%(hooked in)
Wakestyle 20% (basic unhooked stuff upto, hopefully, backmobe, 313 etc, type standard).
With decent/ good hangtime.
Waves - not bothered.

Is there such a Kite? Sizes 11/12, 9, 7 ish.

Ta muchly for any (sensible/ helpful) comments.

Try the Vegas, Best Gp, Naish Torch and other c kites. Suprisingly I found the hangtime on my Best Gp a lot better than on my bridled freestyle kites, maybe it's just the more direct feeling.

Maybe come away from C-shapes for a while.

There are loads of differnet types of kite out there now. Shop around and don't fix yourself to one shape. You never know you might be surprised.

Cab FX seems like it would fit your needs perfectly....It's pretty much halfway between a C kite and your average allrounder kite and it loops like a champ, unhooks well and is basically (at least marketed) as a freestyle oriented kite....Ive ridden a couple different size of it actually, and ill agree it has a similar to C kite feel in the bar, in its responsive nature, and damn it loops nice.....(rode the 12m and 10m)

All the stuff you want to do hooked in you can do with a c kite, kiteloops are best on a c kite, wakestyle/freestyle is best on a c kite. Don't see a reason not to buy a c kite tbh. The amount of slack you get from a proper c is so much better than on a bridled kite, makes it much easier to progress.

Sounds like you need a foil kite brother, you'll get plenty of hang time with them!

GTS 3 or FX
these will fit everything you want. Boost is slightly lacking compared to like a Velocity or Edge but the kites that really boost don't do the other stuff well. So there needs to be a slight trade off. With the GTS3 I can boost pretty high and still do board offs and pretty big kite loops. I would also suggest riding these kites and the FX a size up to get that extra power.
