Why is it considered for a ban in Germany - Ecological protection or public safety?

Hi Tillmann

I do not know the situation there...but it sure looks like ofshore wind...do you mean that by this behaviour people have to be rescued and this a part why they wanna ban kiters in the region?

l do not understand it...why so many politicians have something against Kitesurf sports?

They say it is an extreme sport...( has nothing to do with nature)
extereme? why because people get killed?
every year several divers get killed here
every year plains full of unfortunate skiers/snowboarders injured are flying in
every year climbers get killed
every year motor cyclists, pedestrians, drivers and cyclists get killed ( even more than kitesurfers)

ecological...birds are afraid of a kite?
at our airports they have to shoot and or disturb the birds to have them go away so planes can land safely...

WTF is in the mind of people to close kitespots??? l really do not understand it

dude :angryfire:
I don't understand either, why those foreign extremist are Welcomed,
and mother land kiteboarders are Not :?:

Because the Audubon society has money donated in the spirit of saving baby seals and protecting animals against poachers etc.. to the tune of billions of dollars which they then funnel into lobbyists and bending ears of the politicians and the NPS. The Audubon society will not stop until they are the only ones left to enjoy the land they had everyone kicked off of.
Be careful who you donate money to... just because the cause seems just does not mean they will not use your own money against you.

Last I checked there are 5-6 billion birds on earth. And forgive me but I need to take my 4x4 Jeep out onto Plum Island (MA) and tear up the dunes. Oh but I can't kite there. Like wtf??

you should alert some independent journalists to investigate who started the kite ban motion and their connections with the land and property owners there.

we had several cases of some dirty politicians and businessmen benefiting "suddenly" after some areas been declared natural reserves or parks.

Toby, do you or other kiters in that part of the world know of a kiter who is also a wildlife biologist with an expertise in the birds in question? Or, have you tried to get a non-kiter onboard with those credentials to examine the problem objectively and come up with a counter-proposal to an outright ban?

I don't know what species are involved but usually with birds bordering marine areas their perceived vulnerability varies through the year. When they are nesting is a key period but it doesn't last for an entire year. Sometimes specific exclusion areas are identified for certain times when they might be most at risk. If the concern is flushing the birds while they should be keeping the eggs warm, then work to isolate creating this situation when they might be at risk. Going at this problem in a constructive fashion, using what scientific facts and opinions you can muster from credible sources may go further than just saying we don't like what you are doing. The politicians and managers may be jumping to conclusions based on questionable science forbidding an activity without adequate grounds other than "reasoned" science.

here in France we are regulated by Natura 2000 (birds and habitat). Germany should be under the same legislation as I believe Natura 2000 is european and even spreads on the northern coast of morrocco (connection between morroco and andaluzia for ecological protection).

So natura 2000 does make some places prohibited but only temporaly during the nesting period or when birds need this area as a place to stay.
as an exemple, in the goofy video i posted "wetsuit is lame" the spot is prohibited between november and march. poeple can kite only between april and september.

Areas start behing more and more regulated (at least in france) and the best way to see kiteboarding not banished is to get highly structured.

We, in France do have a fucked up kiteboarding Federation when it comes to international competition but I must admit that they usually defend us when a place is to be closed for kitesurfers.

It's all about finding compromises between ecology, economy and us. Actually kiteboarding can easily have an economic and ecologic positive influence.
