Which suncream/ screen

Postby dragnfly » Fri Jan 08, 2016 4:38 pm

Woop woop - I'm off to Cabo Verde for a week in March. Cant wait.

However, last time I went I got burnt to a crisp on the 1st day and completely ruined my trip (and my nose) - it wasn't pretty. I had to stay in the hotel room for 2 days, and was scaring kids in the restaurant by the end of the week as my face started to disintegrate

(unknown to me, the suncream I carefully applied that morning had been in our cupboard for 2 years and & must have degraded, offering little/ no protection at all).

So - I'm looking for something that won't break the bank, is easily available in the UK, and will stop me getting fried alive again. Mainly for my face, as the rest of me will likely be covered up - so preferably won't sting like buggery if it gets in my eyes.

Any other (sensible) tips also most welcome.

This stuff is amazing. It stays on all day. You need a face wash to get it off though.

They should ship to UK. you'll have it by March thats for sure.

Bullfrog or Aloe Gator are the best and longest lasting I've found so far!

Since you're from UK: http://www.p20.co.uk/

I can vouch for the 50+
Recently came back from a week kiting down in Caribbean, tan free. It does exactly what it says on the label - one application lasts the whole day, doesn't feel greasy, transparent.

Originally that stuff has been discovered by our local, bold-ish riders who have some obvious sun-tanning issues...

Best stuff I used for kiting to this date.

Cheers!

Banana boat sport 110 spf. You will look like Doctor Moreau but it's great.

We can second this, awesome stuff!
One application will see you for the day and it does not wash off in the sea

The best defense against sun damage is to stay out of it or wear clothing which protects your skin.
Wear a hat with a brim and a long sleeve rash guard with UV protection and sunglasses when on the water, stay in the shade when not on the water.

Last time I was in Turks and Caicos I only applied sunscreen a few times and never was burned following the above advice.

Another option is to buy a balaclava type hood. I saw a couple wearing them, just holes for the eyes.... kinda freaked me out when I saw them on the water but I'm guessing they are very sensitive to the rays...

I was just looking at this stuff... all kinds of good reviews.

windsuks and alexeyga - do you use the spray or the original lotion? I'm always hesitant of sprays but this seems to be the newer direction they're going?

Boots standard factor 30 or 50 has regularly got me through a few hours of direct Mauritian sun with no burning - and im fair hair. Plus the anti-mozzy in it appears to work like magic.
