I never went close to the base with the tag.
Took it off, left in a distance to check camera.
Did a lot of walk around for calibration etc.

Just lately with their software update it got really accurate. Worked well now.

But, how can you charge the tag when it is in the armband???

I pre-ordered the first generation solo shot. Takes a while to get calibrated and if it's off a little bit then all the footage is off. I think out of the 8 times I tried to use the device, it gave me footage that was usable only once. Great idea but total waste of time and $. A drone is a way better investment and just a little more $.

I don't think it is a waste of money.

I can film up to 4 hours!

With a drone I would be more off the water than on, changing the battery...

Soloshot 3 will be really worth the money due to easier setup.

If you need to film a lot like Rob and me, it really is a fantastic tool.

I agree with Toby and improvements from the SS1 to the SS2 were massive and I think it looks like a similar jump to the SS3, maybe bringing us something that is a no-brainer to use for more people. We'll wait and see what Toby thinks when he gets his.

In the longer term, the promise of personal self-flying drones is very intriguing but for kiting still problematic. Toby mentioned the battery issue which will be a right pain in the arse, but you also have issues with the wind, assuming you want to film in over 20 knots (I don't think any of the self-flying drones are good enough to handle any real wind yet). And collision awareness is going to be tricky for kites, or more for kite lines, it can probably be set up to avoid your own kite lines, by just positioning it upwind of you, but there may still be issues with it slicing through other people's lines or kites. One day will have something, hopefully, but I think we might have a little while to wait on this one.

@Toby - I do take the tag out to charge but then put it back in the armband to store it.

Ok. Maybe it breaks at transportation, which you avoid with that, true.

Will try

Do any of you know the details about the optic cameras? i.e. f/stop? Couldn't find any good info / preview online.

Any news when they will be ready? When I pre-ordered mine in september it was supposed to be in march, but then the monthly newsletters etc also stopped at some point..

I hope there will be no Carafino Karma to this one :-p

The last newsletter came a month ago or so.

Late spring which can be end of June they say...

Unfortunately I just missed the Soloshot team in Cabarete, they were testing.

Sounds like the 3 is also much faster, which is important, since I missed many jumps since I went too high too fast...so jumped out of the picture.
Specially with the zoom feature of their camera this will be very important.
I heard twice as fast.

Can't wait, it will improve my video quality a lot.
