I was wondering if either boots or a leash would work here. If I ever do get on the river I'll definitely post some pictures here.

That's a very interesting lake indeed. I would expect you could find clean wind up there so it wouldn't have the usual problems with small fetch lakes.

I like to do a measure distance on the maps and draw out a 25m segment that represents your kite and lines and take a look how it would fit on the lake. I think you could get away with kiting that little lake for sure.

Based on the location though it looks like that lake might be a towns main water source so they might not allow you in it for that reason. Actually maybe it's just a reservoir for snow making.

There is very little launching area too, only really at the North end by the little marina which again might kick you off because you'll be kiting on top of all the people paddling little boats around.

One relatively safe way to kite lakes and rivers is to boat launch. It keeps you away from shore when launching and recovering, and you can adjust for various wind directions. Its not for everyone, and takes some practice to figure out how to launch from and recover to the boat, but it can provide you a lot of open water all to yourself.

race kite far from easy, short lines, kite collapsing, once in the tree. Seems to sum up the experience that could be expected. An inflatable on 50+meter lines might be quite easy, till you try to launch or land it, or something goes wrong.

There are a few sections of the mississippi river I've always wanted to kite for instance around st louis, near that chain of rocks bridge the current is too strong to swim against that water is racing downwind also those barges are blasting down the river, still something that would be a blast if I could get a partner in crime.
Traffic can be a problem on rivers.

I've windsurfed in this, but although it's possible, it's not suitable for kiting. 200m max length.

Also think outside the square.

There's more to kiting that just the water.
