The CL is going to slip off the ring and be more trouble than it's worth. Also, I'd use MUCH thicker line for that ring diameter.

Yes, I did wonder about that but thought it worth a go. I was counting on the kite's pull being enough to keep the CL in the groove. If this doesn't work I'll just go back to a stainless steel ring and threading the CL through that, although I don't think that it will slide as well as the ring in the photo.
The rope is 4mm SK 75, spliced, as used in the Dynabar. So far it has held up well but that my be because I am only 70kgs.

4mm IMO is too thin. I'm using closer to 1/4" to 3/8", maybe 7-10mm. Lots of surface area is your friend in order to reduce friction and prolong line life.

I should have made that clearer. I am using 4mm but with a Brummel splice for the whole length so that the 4mm = 8mm after it is buried back in itself.

Used it yesterday in choppy conditions. The cl did come off the ring once which was a bit difficult to get back on but otherwise ok. If it was easier to get replacement cl for my bar I would probably ditch the ring but it does slide more smoothly than just on the rope alone.

Apart from shoving 4mm into itself doesn't make it 8mm:)

Out of curiosity to anyone who's discussed changing the slide rope with Ride Engine, did they give you a preferred knot to keep it from slipping. I know they had issues at one point.

Simple overhand, aka "Granny Knot" is all you need. The knot was never the problem. The problem was that the ropes installed at the factory were too short, and the knots had to be tied at the very ends of the rope.
When you finish your knot and cinch it down firmly, there must be adequate "tail" left over. 1.5-2 inches of tail on each end and you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Gotcha. I heard knots pulled through so I assumed it was a bad knot. Not enough tail makes sense. I was going to tie the new rope on with double overhand, but I guess it doesn't really matter.

I had one of the early ones...heard about this issue before riding and just replaced the rope and left 2" of tail...that was 9-months ago and all is well. I Lube it with ski wax and haven't had any issues.
