Single front line flagging bar with Qpower lines

Postby GregK » Wed May 25, 2016 4:13 am

Recently built a frankenbar for friend with Qpower lines & set up single front line flagging. Length adjustment on all 4 lines ; inside the neoprene covers on the steering leader lines, and for front lines, fixed front is on an adjustable short leader, length of the flagging front can be adjusted by moving the knot in the yellow mini-5th that stops the white parrell bead.

Close-up shows the transition from yellow mini-5th with Qpower line spliced into it. That transition is covered by Dacron sailtape and whipped with a plethora of zig-zag stitching. An overhand knot in the middle of the bury ( and lots of stitching in the splice ) ensures the splice holds. Travel of the bar up the flagging line is set by an adjustable half-ball stopper. Mini-5th also has a section of bungie cord spliced in to keep it from flapping around when the trim line is pulled in.

why not just knot the qpower below the white stopper ball and then lark's head the yellow line to the knot. for my qpower I just run 10 meters of 12 strand on the safety line so I can use the regular system. but if i was gonna run q-power all the way down I would knot it below the swivel/V split whatever.

Line coming out of the top of the white stopper ball rubs against the small stainless ring and is a wear-out point. Spliced 12-strand with Qpower inside will last longer than a loop of bare Qpower.

Since its a franken bar, I would have used the Ozone Stainless Steel Trimmer vs splicing the lines. Currently what I am using.

Nice solution Greg! I wore out my first line trying as edt suggested and multiple other bare q line safeties. Now I've got a 6 meter 12 strand larked to a figure 8 in my power line. Just don't like that it twists up with the front line after many rotations. The figure 8 in the front line has held flawless for 2 years in some big winds but I still don't like it and the extra drag from such a thick safety probably does not help.
I'll show you my bar at Nitinat this summer and perhaps get some suggestions.
Thanks for the pics.

You could have also sleeved the Qpower line, or/and another option is to wrap the ring with line and not use a ball...
