I recently published the plans for two of my tube kites on GitHub. Beside the DXF kite plans you will find the 3D models (blender file) and all the technical data calculated by my WingCalc software http://www.wingworks.de/kite-design/3d- ... -wingcalc/.

Have fun and please feel free to send me your feedback, ideas, comments!

Congratulations. So much work.
I was thinking there were only 2 kite design programs avaiable, SurfPlan from Australia and iKDesign from France http://wingdesignsoftware.net/indexEN.htm. Either sites don"t seem to have been updated since .... 2013.

Have you ever published on
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Inflatodesign/ or http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Foildesign/ ?

To simplify the sewing process, have you ever tried to design a strutless kite ?

Hi. There was a website with free plans a loooong time ago, one problem was that some factories who know little about kites where downloading and making the kites with bad lines, bad bars that were not to safe and selling them cheep online. I have some strut less plans that work great and an interesting 4 segmented kite with 3 struts that flys great also, and a great universal short V bar design I have been toying with the idea to put online as a community type thing for kite tinkerers to make there own kites and build off the designs and bars options at fair prices.

Thanks PanTau for good work and sharing the results. Couple of tech questions:

1)used airfoil parameters: camber, autostability?, thickness, why do you use the ones you use? Straigth wingtip struts?
2)do you know the idea of making a strut as a straight conical tube and then adding an airfoil with piece of cloth between strut and sail? Usable idea or complication?
3)thicker less supported LE or thin one with more bridled points
4)cross lines, "spider bridle"?
5)adding bridle to struts or TE? Against simplicity though.
6)adding dyneema load frame aka Airush?

Have you thought any of these? For me to start LEI project I would need some special reason to do so. To make a light weight kite might be the most obvious one.

I wish some of the big brand kite companies would open source some of the old kite plans. Take the original Best Waroo, that kite will never be produced again by Best, but it's still a classic kite. Why not open source it for hobbiests to make?! How cool would that be. And you could get bladders to fit!

What kite would you like to be seen open sourced?

Some kites I like to make would be OR flite, core xr4 and pivot. All really nice allround devices.
I made the zero prestige 11m and 8.5 ckites. Used the 11m a bit but times changed so fast that it became obsolete.
The material cost are quite high to do DIY but I am still wanting to do this again with a modern sle design platform.

Great work man to make this available opensource!

I wonder if recycling old kites for their material would work? At least through the learning curve. I had a crispy wipika 22.5 that would have been perfect!

Sure:

viewtopic.php?f=107&t=2391895

Today, I've done some tests with my ripstop and looks like I've got a nylon instead of polyester :( Hm, will need to order a poly than....A bit busy at work atm...

I would call it upcycling :-)
It will work if you remove all the old seams. This will cause some extra work since you may have to compose sail and leading edge panels from smaller pieces. Be aware of the fabric orientation.
In any case it's a good opportunity to get used to the sewing machine and you will get your own patchwork kite :-)

There is lots of space left on GitHub :-)

Hi,
I pushed a new release of the Freeride kite GO https://github.com/wingworks/GO to GitHub.
The release 1.0 includes:
- 3d model of the kite (.blend)
- CAD plan (.dxf)
- Printable plan (.pdf)

Details: https://github.com/wingworks/GO/blob/master/GO_S.kite
Releases: https://github.com/wingworks/GO/releases

Printed the plans yesterday an will spend the next weekend on my sewing machine. Kite has to be finished before my summer holiday in september :-)
