@jakemoore and TomW: this is what I mean, administrated open source. The class sets the rules, any manufacturer can choose if it's the case to get in the game or not. Rules must be very compelling, de facto leveling the difference between the different brands. Also, an X-years minimum gear lifespan rule can be set (as in formula windsurfing, a model can be renewed only every two years) to avoid the need of buying new stuff as soon as the latest and more performing models appear.
