So practicaly we are talking about the Infinity 3.0 bar and not much to do with the Speed 5. I would say either it was a physical damage but more importantly if it was only a few cm right above the Y, then you just need to untangle your front main lines with no crossing lines above the Y. It happened to me as well a few times that I was in a rush to go kiting and just changed the bar for some reason and did not pay too much attention when rolling down the lines and untangling them so my main lines were crossing each other right above the Y and I guess this does not really help their lifespan. Once you do it right and you leave the bar on the kite will stay ok.

I had a 3 line (instant) breakage during a downloop on my speed5 12m, the recoil was so strong I broke a metacarpal in my hand upon recoil to my harness hook.
My girlfriend also has a 12 and had a front line break recently about 6 inches above attachment point. Maybe 10 sessions on that kite.
My 12 has also gone through its two yellow mixer lines....which is to be expected.
I had a front line break on my 9m speed5 as well resulting in a stripping of almost a complete half kite of bridles. Flysurfer warranty covered that episode.
I recently had a c bridle line break for no reason on my 15m speed 5.
These kites also eat FLS lines at quite a rate. I keep 2 extra in stock now.
Love these kites, nothing performs like them, but not for the faint of heart. I am happy to be foiling now which places far less load on them.
I think of them like Ferraris

If you wax the mixer lines, you will never need to replace them. I use ordinary candle wax and I just rub it on the line on all sides. For example, I have an 8 meter Speed 4 DLX with over 200 hours on it and the lines are still like new. I wax them after almost every session. Before I did this, on my old Speed 3's, I had to replace the lines maybe once a season. I wish this was included as standard information in their manual.

On my infinity 3.0 racebar there was a very sharp edge at the end of the winders.
I took a cutter knife and scrached it off. Maybe you have this too...

What protection does the wax provide? From absorbing water? It seems like it would cause sand/grit/dirt to stick to the mixer.
