2017 Cabrinha Drifter Reviews?

Postby KiteDR » Fri Feb 24, 2017 3:46 pm

It's been out for 6 months now, wondering if there is anyone who can report on some of the changes that were made and how they've affected performance? Particularly interested in the new bridle adjustments that can be made and whether they improve upwind performance especially when occasionally using the kite for freeride in flat water conditions.

Additionally, are they really as bad as people say they are in the low end? Cab website indicates should be similar to switchblades...

Just looking for some long-term reports on this specific kite.

Bridle adjustment does work. It sits forward in the window and feels like a normal kite. I still prefer the original wave riding setting though. My buddy prefers the new setting. Low end feels normal to me.

Perfect - thanks Dwight! I assumed so but wasn't sure. Want to make sure I won't be handing my wife a kite she'll struggle to get upwind with as she's still learning.

Anyone compare it back to back with a kite like the Pivot?

2016 Drifter 9m and Pivot 10m I've ridden back to back, on TT and directional in onshore wind and lake swell.

I preferred the Drifter as it was just easier to ride and more stable than the Pivot (in the gusts) . . . and actually jumped ok on the TT -- so long as you redirected aggressively for a soft landing. Pivot needed tension on the back lines and even hindenburged a couple of times if I sheeted it right out while standing around. I did not enjoy the Pivot on the TT.

Drifter was just more predictable and enjoyable for me, but I've had a Cabrinha kite or two since day one.

In the same boat :) Thanks for the back to back comparison, wife on TT primarily still so that helps. I'll stick to what is familiar and stay with cab.
