Wetsuit that is not tight on the knees.

Postby FredBGG » Fri Mar 31, 2017 5:34 pm

I have rather large bones and find all the wetsuits I have tried are just too tight on the knees.

Can anyone recommend a brand that is not tight on the knees. Also I don't need kneepads like surfers do.

I don't want to go with a dry suit though that might be an option.

I believe Axxe does custom fit wetsuits. I know there is one or two other brands that do custom fit as well.

just cut em off above the knees. many guys in cape town ride like this in cold water. it keeps your body still warm and you get rid of the problem of water flowing into your wetsuit

Look into custom made wetsuits (like scuba diving wetsuit makers etc. Tell them t's for kitesurfing, ask for great freedom of movement on upper torso / shoulders and let them measure you up and do their thing. I went down this route 10 years ago and never looked back at the brand wetsuits.

Hmmm. Might just give that a go. Got a wetsuit that is getting ready to be retired.

Thanks

Check out 7till8 custom wetsuits. They're from SoCal and have measuring centers located in LA and OC... https://7till8.com/pages/visit-us

Cutting your suit "above the knee" seems like it would allow water to flow into the suit just like a traditional shortly wetsuit. I know when I crash I can get flushed with water through the legs and depending on the crash the legs can even get pulled/bunched up.

Much like the cool-weather cycling tights, wetsuits that cover your knee caps make a noticeable difference in warmth and pretty much eliminates any water flushing. Many kite related brands now make suits that cover down to just below the knee.
