Kitesurfing shenanigans in New York (video)

Messing around with local crew.
Starting to land S bend (unhook frontroll)
At the end of video had a couple of deathloop incident, totally my fault apparently I need to learn how to relaunch a C kite.

Enjoy video, let me know what you think.

Didnt get it on video but at end of session I did a high kiteloop without my board (lost it on pop), I did a landing loop but still landed through the lineas I skipped on top of water for a while, didn't realize and I had to ditch the kite (leash and QR), my buddy retrieved kite while I swam back.

my latest session should be interesting landed some nice kiteloop on 12m C kite:

Looks like it s warming up, this year we could kite all winter but march has been horrible... I bet after your trip to Belize it's hard to get back on water. In a few weeks should be good!

Do you guys get a lot of wind down there? What's the best season? How often decent winds and how many knots?

Here are a couple of wind stats for the spots I kite at:
that one is mostly winter:
http://wx.ikitesurf.com/map#40.954,-72.76,10,1,!93541,8

That's for summer:
http://wx.ikitesurf.com/map#40.542,-73. ... 1,!46648,8

I think it's pretty good out here, some guys who have times and light wind gear can kite 100 to 200 days. With good wetsuit you can easily kite until late december and pick back up from late Feb.

Best season is September to June. Obviously there are a few weeks where it can be too cold to kite. Usually it's too cold in Jan and Feb but this year some people kited pretty much all the way through winter.

Since late September I have been only on 9m, only a few times on 12 and . pretty much all +22 knots with maybe 6ish solid 30-35 knots. 4 sessions with gusts in the 40s

From late June to early September it's mostly 12m days or 17m days (if you are really desperate), occupationally you get some strong 9m days as well.

Careful with your lines

Your lines got tangled because you were holding only one end of your bar

nice spot you have there

Yes I am still a noob at relaunching C kite. literally took me 3 minutes of trying to relaunch it, eventually tried to pull the line harder as well as center lines but couldn't see that the lines went over the bar. The gopro had better angle of view than my eyes I guess. I am not totally convinced there was something wrong, I should have pulled both lines making sure there were no tangle...

I need to try this: apparently I should sheet in instead of classic sheeting out technique... I have heard of the fifth line trick as well.

Great video! Nice editing! And most of all, the humility to include that bit at the end. Most kiters I know have too much of an ego and would not let the world see that. But we are all better off for watching it.

Keep them coming!

The last video link you posted doesn't work. I am not familiar with pure C kites, but maybe it works on them too. Try pulling one steering line and opposite middle line. Works wonders in light winds too. You need a low Y split bar for this to work.

yeah agree we need more fail videos :D they are good for teaching

During your self rescue it looks like you let your right hand get woven in to your bar, you should make sure to avoid that in the future or just swim up a front line, secure your kite and then deal with the bar/lines.

Fun video though.
