Shark attacks foil

Postby Ecoastprock » Tue May 02, 2017 6:24 am

So I took my new foil out for first session and this happened

I have been told the foils look like a ray under water but didn't expect this on my first time foiling!

Looks like you hit something that then thrashed around. Where it breaks the surface it stays there...its not chasing.

In my experience Sharks are affraid of foils because of the vibration, I see many almost on daily basis in Florida. Sometimes they come close for inspection but they always back off

if you watch the video again and in HD you can see at the 5-6 sec mark there is a little chop trailing the foil line, it looks like he accelerated to check out the wings and nudged the back wing slowing me and causing me to fall, if I were to run him over or hit him I would have stopped much faster and more abruptly. The tail flick happens a moment before i lose speed and fall. I think he was investigating the foil and rubbed it, no bite marks.

It didn't attack me but definately went after the foil wings. I was unaware anything happened until I looked at the gopro footage afterwards. Crazy!

We had a shark attack a foil in cocoa. Guy wasnt even riding yet. Adjusting footstraps or something. Fucked up the foil bigtime.... You have to admit, carbon fiber looks alot like fish scales.

Yeah i was wondering if there was anything i could do to change the appearance, kinda sketchy considering it was my first session, probably have that in the back of my mind every time now. it doesnt help that a woman was bit last week about 1 mile from where i was riding the foil.

Orcas love rays but hopefully smart enough to know the difference!
