Foil kite line length for boosting

Postby Kitemanmuc » Sun May 07, 2017 3:19 am

What is everyone favorite line length for boosting big on a foil kite? I have 15 and 19m lines for racing, but looking for a bar for boosting and airstyle.
Would 19m work as well as 24?

I use 20m. Any longer and it takes the kite a while to get where you want it and sucks the height out of it. Fast wing....bigger jumps. Less your tanking it in the first place.

I think it could be different, on different boards and kite sizes ?

Hydrofoils jumps a lot higher than Twintips when lower and medium wind, because of their speed and efficiency and way higher angle thus apparent wind is increased a huge factor.
Apparent wind determines the max possible jump height.

Up to 30 knots maybe, and this gap is gradually getting smaller of course, but still present - eventually it will be a matter of control instead.

Foil kites jumps higher than LEI's it seems, eventhough a "picky" topic for many reasons

Foil kites on hydrofoils jumps max, no doubt.

Some use 10-15 meter lines on these, most use sub 20 m at least, but I am not sure it is because they jump the highest with these shorter lines (where the big slower foil kites change position in the window much faster now, so a good kick in the ass on takeoff), OR it is because they are used to these, from racing, thus jump with these

Historically some will say LONGER lines jumps the highest ha haa, it is not that easy :naughty:

Skills and more wind means the most of course, but that was not the topic

On my 15 Sonic and twin tip I use 27m lines. It is a pain in the arse to launch and land on skinny beaches but it is better for air style riding. The kite loops way higher so when you're coming out of dark slides and the like the loop isn't too aggressive.

have jumped over 12m on the 15 sonic with this configuration.
