Like my RE but why must they be so heavy and absorb so much water?

Good Question, I'll ask a manufacturer.

As far as I know these harnesses don't come in different backwidths, only the spreader bar can be adapted. Why have they done so and can we expect different widths in the future?

Ride Engine make a completely custom fit harness. They send you a heat formable blank that you warm and fit, then you send it back and they build it into a harness. More money, but your asking for a non standard product.

Do you have a jay xtc in your test?

PS I alreadt have one. but am interested to know how it compares to others.

PS. spreader hook up to harness and ease of putting on is high on the list. Adjustability is another. Do any come with low friction rings as standard or option?

Not any more! The only thing they make "custom" now are the graphics.

Rumor has it that they may bring back the custom fit option, but they need to dial in the infrastructure to make this possible. Stay tuned.

Thanks for the correction.

Have nothing more to add except maybe that for the first little while a lot of relatively thin riders were opting for the small as it was comfortable to have such a small footprint in a hard shell. I was right on the small end of Medium on their size chart and went with the medium and am happy with the fit. Even the medium was quite a small harness compared to the dakines I had previously and it fits well with appropriate flotation.
