Protection against the sun

Postby early bird2 » Thu Jul 13, 2017 4:51 am

Hi ! I had a specialist who told me yesterday I had a pre skin cancer on my face , front , nose , ear .
So I've been looking around differents forums here but could not find a one forum where we could find : sunscreens , body protection , hat , helmets , sunglasses ect . So I thought it might be a good idea to start a topic where we could find all these at the same place . I understand now that we need to take advises very seriously concerning the danger of the sun .If this already exists , could someone please tell me where can I find it . Thanks.

There are a bunch of brands that make these things, but they're a good choice for long days on the water.

Heya,

I started using this:

And not the only one on my local. The UV damage on my face is just ridiculous for the last few years, and to be fair, one girl I know looks way older than she is, like 10y older.
The Naroo is very lite, and dries quick, I don't even notice if wet. It also has bigger and ultra fine mesh for breathing. Would hate to loose it, maybe some tiny clip to secure it would be nice.

More and more joggers I see with a similar masks. They look a bit bulkier tho. I highly recommend this one.

People need to wake up, look at the skiers how they look after.

That is what the Sun does. To everyone.

Downunder , good looking product Thanks . What do you use for your forehead ? Ears ? neck ? we need to think about the water's reflection , I mean even though we have a helmet , hat , trucker's hat , the uvs reach our faces from the water's reflection and reach the bottom of our faces . So , is there a reliable sunscreen that stays on the skin for water sports . Sunscreen washes quickly with water contact . So we end up not protected after a very short session . Also since the sunscreen melt and reach eyes , we end up not applying it sufficiently on the forehead .

Sorry, I don't follow.

Bird, interestingly the most UV damage is under the eyes, on cheek bones over to ears, and a nose. The ear itself is hardly UV damaged as I see it. Neck also. I think this areas are attacked on a daily basis, so...
Needless to say I'm using Zinc only, sometimes invisible Zinc with +50. All the time, every time.

Technically you could put a bucket on your head but that is not really appropriate :) Your Gath might fill with water and might drown :( That is the least you want. Dump the visor, more issues with that than without.

My Blue Power Ranger getup :cool2:

100% sunblock, 100% normal visibility, head protection, double eye protection from helmet visor - no reflected sun burn - no fogging no heat stroke no chemicals soaking into skin and I laugh when red faced sunburnt people covererd in zinc ask me... why do I wear a mask lol

1x gath hat
1x biker mask
1x big lense Fish eye polarised glasses (the extra Elton john size sits over mask.
1x dust mask filter ( gutted for glue on mouth breather..
1x old rashie cut and sewn to mask, to cover neck and tuck into wetsuit.

Warning !!!
Unless you like 'Waterboarding Torture' do not try "without" Breather added...

Wet neoprene or cloth will Not let you Breath from your mouth.

And before you make yourself a Wanker..

One of my friends died from skin cancer.. dont be one of the Wankers who put off others from whatever means to protect themselves - by trying to be a fashion policemen.

After a couple of sessions acclimatizing, our local sun intensity is so low I could surf in shorts and T all year long and do nothing but get a nice tan. It's so low here, and people spend so little time outside that latest medical advise is to take VitD supplements to make up for it!

20 minutes in the sun in Cyprus and I was actually blistered, despite waterproof SPF50.
