Why hasn't anyone stated the obvious we all learned when we were kids: the best protection against the sun is a good tan.
Studies have shown that it isn't sun that's worst for skin, it's bad sunburns. In the good old days before sunscreen, we used to get plenty of sun starting in March/April, and by the time summer came we had good tans and rarely got bad burns.
Nowadays, people obsessively use sunscreen that prevents even a mild tan, and then they forget to use it one time or miss a spot and get fried. That's the worst thing possible.

A suntan or sunbed tan usually provides a maximum SPF (sun protection factor) of 4, which means you would take four times longer to burn than if you had no tan. If you would normally burn after 15 minutes of sun exposure, with a tan you would burn in one hour, or four times 15 minutes. However, to even get a tan you need to damage your skin: a tan is the body's response to damaged DNA in the skin cells — the skin darkens in order to prevent more damage, but the person's risk of skin cancer is already increased. So there is no such thing as a "safe" or "healthy" tan. Since sunburns are also associated with higher risks of skin cancer, especially melanoma, avoid both tans and sunburns.

Downunder , where did you buy the naroo mask ? Can't find any in my area so far .
FYI you can buy bandanas made of stretchy lycra for cyclists for about USD 2 or so. You can cut it how you want and pull it over your face any which way - including like naroo mask, or whole face with holes for eyes and nose etc. etc.

thanks for theses tips , I already have some types of bandanas . I do have a lycra mask but once wet , I can't breathe threw it . As you say , I will make some cuts but I'm still interested in the Naroo mask cause it seems to be well built .

Purchased in KL, Malaysia.

I have one Naroo F5s for sale tho, boxed, never used. You'll never have a breathing issue when wet. Or when mountain bike riding etc. This can't be compared to lycra, lycra is way more difficult to breath through. I tried to make a mask from Skins (body compression) fabric, doesn't work, not stretchy enough AND it would need a mesh for breathing.

Anyone interested drop me a PM.

Buff makes some sun masks that have laser cut holes for breathing that I think will work.

Seems a good idea for UV on the face and neck. But do they feel like 'water boarding' during water sports?
And if used for land, will they absorb sweat and evaporate?? Otherwise, too hot (on land)

I used Watermens sunscreen - thick white paste that is hard to get rid of in the water and after.
Hard to find now - out of business or some toxic chemical issues??
I heard that Hawaii is banning sunscreens with oxybenzone - bad for live coral.

I do not notice when Naroo is wet, the Model I have is exactly as on a pic.

Hopefully the OP will get his F5 soon so he can post the review.

No product can match Naroo since only they have an ear hooks if not mistaking.
