Drone for filming Kiting?

Thinking about going in on a DJI Mavic Pro. Yes I know there is a 50% chance it drops in the ocean and i never see it again.

Anyone have any real life experiences using this drone for filming kiting? Obviously i would use it for other stuff too, but that doesnt concern me as much.

mavic pro it's probably the best choice, I have seen some YouTube videos and have a very good stability in medium wind, dji is the drone leader brand, the spark would also be a choice but can stand lighter wind only
I don't have direct experience, just seen some videos on YouTube

Phantom 4 would be better, but for the money, the mavic is a great value.

Any one of the phantom series are great for filming. I have heard the mavic has some bugs so I went with the phantom series . Flying is all about practice and familiarizing yourself with the capabilities and most of all its LIMITS . Some important things that come to mind are don't fly your drone in high winds (over 20knts) and don't fly it too far out especially where u cant see it and you are not familiar with the area these two mistakes and you will loose your drone very eaisily .Also pay close attention to battery or error warnings. It takes some good skill to film someone kiting so spend time to practice . Forget those kicstarter drones as there is no guarantee they will ever make it to market I know one company that just went belly up recently not sure if people go there money back and Honestly DJI is the best drone maker out there right now I have the p3 advanced and it an awesome tool .

I had an AirDog and it worked fine for filming yourself - that is its key difference as it's designed to follow the rider only. They have just released the AD2 with some additional features incl a better gimbal and software improvements. If you already had a GoPro this might be worth considering depending on your needs. If you had to buy a camera and the drone the. A DJI is probably cheaper.

I've been using a Mavic since the spring and prior to that a Phantom, for me I way prefer the Mavic not least for the portability.
It's been used in up to 25mph or os but then have often had to switch to sport more otherwise it was just going with the wind

I don't tend to kite to close to the kite, more just after shots that give an idea for the area etc

Try and see the dji day cycle of drone releases probably due a mavic pro 2 by now

Both haven't got any propeller guards but that does harm flight quality

I've had the Mavic for 5 months now and would recommend it. I've flown in up to 25mph winds in sport mode without issues. I'm sure I could fly in higher winds, but haven' t had the courage to try yet. One down side to the Mavic is the camera is a bit more difficult to get dialed in than with the Phantom (I've used both). I found youtube videos made by a guy named Ed Ricker are very useful in getting the camera and controller settings adjusted to make filming easier.

For filming downwind of my launch location, I change the low battery signal to indicate a low battery at 30% or more depending on how far away I plan to fly. That way I'm reminded to be sure I have enough time/battery to fight the wind back to my landing spot.

Even though the Phantom has a better camera, I find the portability of the Mavic makes up for it. With a bit of tweaking and research, you can get the camera settings to be nearly as good as the Phantom.
