The 2018 looks very Rebel-like in the air but flies more like a fac-simile of earlier Rebels. It provides similar performance but in slightly different way / different feeling. It fills the same marketing nice as earlier Rebels. It's another great 4-line Kite. Is it a good or bad thing? Dunno. Cheers and good winds to everyone!

Well I have been undecided to comment today after spending a couple of hours on a 2018 10m rebel. (18-22 knots).

Not much to add, as most have already covered it to be honest.

I agree with Sarc's main ideas above (except standing underneath it I swear I'm looking at the bastard child of a rebel, an evo..with a splash of neo in the wingtips).

Although I'd like to emphasise the different feel...it is very different. It is now it seems, just another great 4 line kite.

I'm sure after a few days/a week you would dial into its new idiosyncrasies (Hence I won't make an absolute judgement because that is just naïve).

What I will categorically say is the new kite goes far more vertical. It is a bigger jumper in the vertical plane. Or let's say power conversion to the vertical plane is far easier to access. The bridals/pulleys (and of course kite shape) allow you to send the kite higher through the window. Not so much an issue on flat water but in the ocean it makes a difference. The kite is more dynamic overall....but...

All other aspects...after this small ride.... I still prefer my 2017. But Maybe I'm just getting too boring, set in my ways and fear change.

Some have made the point about the no bridal, no pulley, fifth line loaded ....feel

is completely unique to the rebel...it is.

Or was.

No mate, all the lads (Three of them infact) ride 2016m evos. Oh actually my bro has just bought a new 2017m 10m evo!!!

I could have a go on that. But I have ridden the 2016m evo heaps (9m/10m/12) and I'm sure the 2017 isn't a whole lot different.

The 2018m rebel is nothing like the 2016/2017 evo if that's what you are wanting to find out. It's not a replacement.

That being said the 2018m rebel did drift a little better hey...not that you'd slot into a double head high barrel down the line on it, but it did drift better on slack lines. 2017 doesn't like slack lines at all!!

2018m evo we will see I suppose. 3 struts, more delta? Be better in the waves,,,jumping will be numpty and easier I'd say.

Ho um...when you've been riding for long enough and you've tried enough kites...nothing really surprises you anymore.

Pardon me, i don't get the meaning of those sad smiley faces.
Is still there the real spirit of the loaded 5th line Rebel in the new 2018 four lines Rebel?

Yep, agreed. I've had the opportunity to take out the 12 and 14 on a few more sessions and in comparison to other kites I feel much more confident trying advanced and new tricks. :thumb:
