Favorite Cam postion for Kiteboarding

Postby Sefiz » Thu Aug 31, 2017 7:16 pm

I might get an older GoPro from a friend and want to take it out for a ride.
I have no experience in filming while kiting, so what are the faverite postions for filming while on the water?

I like mouth mount perspectives, but this does not seem the best thing for a 2 hour session.
Easiest is cam on kiteboard, but also boring?

What do you guys prefer?

Helmet is my favorite,
Line mount is cool but not super practical and can be dangerous
I don't really like mouth mount, it's usually a bit shaky, shoulders are in the way and annoying to carry around when not filming. Also when powered and choppy it's kind of hard to breath sometimes. I guess pro of mount mount is that you can do selfie, though you can also grab your helmet for selfie lol.

Anyway, some people love mouth mount others don't... Looks like it's personal choice.

Here is my latest line mount video:

what about the line mount, is this an issue with SFS?
I would guess this heavily increases the "can end in allot of trouble" factor.

I have an older Naish Bar with this big swiffel. I though about mounting a GoPro baseplate directly to it. At least it would not interfere with any lines, except when they tangle arrount it.

IMO line mount.

But never nice to have just one view ... mix it and also put someone into the water to film you too

you better change views for anything longer than 1 minute.
No one yet suggested pole in the water. It works great for shallow/flat spots. You can make one out of cheap telescopic window squeegee and also use it as giant selfie-stick.
If you have offshore flat spot, you can just leave gopro on the beach and do your stuff 3-10 ft from it..
Line mount is great too but I'd hesitate to use it in sketchy conditions.. It may screw up flagging of the kite.
This clip was filmed with mouth mount (biting on orange floaty) and placing gopro on the sand.

You want to mix it up best viddies for me is when I have hand held one on beach another on a drone and one on a float in the water.

mix it up. videos with just one perspective can get boring. there's no "best" mount. variety is the best

I hate line mount but it doesn't matter what you choose as long as you mix it up

deniska has a good example of how to mix it up

MIx it up is great just need more organisation, battery and possibly more GoPro. Also when wind is up I usually avoid line mount, i have been lucky so far with it but I wipe out plenty already with bad line wrap that I don't feel serene adding a line mount to those sessions.

In most case line mount will break if it gets tangle bad in powered conditions, anyway I would try to kite conservatively with line mount if you go for it.

I tried mixing it up a bit between 2 days in a row, first time on C kite with a lot of wipeouts ;)

jeromel: nice video! Is the POV shooting done with a mouth mount or a helmet cam?
So far I did not like the view of a helmet cam, but if you used one, it looks good.
