We were taught true wind, induced wind and apparent wind, so different language but same ideas. Got to know the basics to get better. Nice to post it. I'm sure it will be useful to some.

Yes I agree it does explain apparent wind. But for kiters its lacking explanation of how the wind window is affected by apparent wind. IE the more apparent wind you have the further back the wind window shifts. It is no longer at 90 (approx ) to the true. The wind window shifts back in relation to the apparent.

This one was posted on the board earlier. Explains it pretty well :thumb:

I also think this should be basic theory for beginners.

I saw that video, and am glad someone put an anemometer on a kite, but it barely scratched the surface of what should be tested.

Position in the window, diving the kite (power-stroke), different line lengths while power stroking, upwind, reaching, downwind and position in the wind window during all of them.

I also hoped they would use the wind came to measure direction of wind coming onto the leading edge of the kite, so their apparent wind data would be correlated to angle-of-attack.

I'm really looking forward to someone taking all these measurements AND putting load cell(s) between the board and the foil, so they can capture the full dynamic picture of kitefoiling.
