So the general feeling is this helmet is no good. Any particular reason why?

There's no certification so the only way to know for sure is to do your own test (to destruction) which doesn't help because that ruins the helmet, so no, there's no way. By the way, most modern water helmets have zero certification, so why put your trust in something which simply costs more. If you want to be safe, get a certified helmet. It won't cost more or less than a helmet without certification you will just know for sure how much it will protect you.

I do feel that there's no harm in wearing an uncertified $20 helmet. A little protection is better than none at all. Those Bern bump caps have no certification but are comfortable and nice for just a little protection. And the wise crackers that think cost is a factor, cost doesn't matter, manufacturers don't matter what matters is you have that CE 1077B or CSA Z263.1-14 or CE 1077B or ASTM 2040

The reason why is that they are bulky. Most of them. Think of "bucketing", like, when you take a bucket and try to pickup some water from the ocean what happens? The exactly the same thing when you crash ie on your back. The helmet might induce a whiplash and a neck injury.

Gath at.al is not bulky, I like it, but for that money I can build my own carbon-kevlar helmet. Which I did. It is a superficial protection but it might, just might, help one day.

It's called a 'skin' helmet. Something like Harley riders love to use. Same with the above Bern caps, it will never cause a whiplash.

They say its CE certified conforms to EN1385 2005. This helmet looks identical to NP helmet which also claims the same certification and as pointed out, EVA lining

Nice! EN1385 2005 I would buy it, if I didn't already have a dozen helmets. EN1385 2005 is some kind of kayaking standard so it's built for repeated head impacts

It's the same helmet as NP's! The dead giveaways are the vent pattern, the unique pattern on the ear covers including the hearing holes, and the "twist tightening system"/"ratchet wheel".

I know of many brands that source from the same suppliers. NP is also a Pryde Group brand which is HQ'ed in HK, China, so they may have relations with the same factory.

That helmet is a lot of dead weight. My Protech (?) is for sure 450-550 grams.

Why do you guys think that this is NOT heavy? Ah well, why do I bother....Use the Search, Helmet discussion is not new.

Ya I really wasn't looking to rehash the debate on helmets generally, just asking if anyone knew about that specific one thats all.
