Winter wetsuit recommendations

Postby SpaceRacer » Tue Oct 31, 2017 8:04 am

Not looking for a wetsuit vs drysuit discussion here. Looking for the warmest wetsuit period. I kite and SUP more than prone surfing anymore so warmth would be my priority over flexibility. And I do it in sub 75 degree Fahrenheit combined air/water. Any recommendations on what to buy and from where would be appreciated. Thanks

RipCurls’ 6/4 FlashBomb has to be the Rolls Royce of wetsuits. Comes very pricey but is nothing short of awesome. I use a 5/4 ION Strike Amp Skin for the winter season (3-12 degree water temps here in Denmark) and it’s great. Hood, boots, gloves and thermal wear is an added cost of course.

Sorry, you said “sub 75F degrees”. Can you be more specific and give a range. If your lowest water temps are above 40F you can go with a thinner wetsuit. You won’t need even a 5/4 thickness. Maybe try a zipless? My summer suit is a 3/2 zipless (my first zipless) and I was blown away by the flexibility I suddenly had. My winter suit is backzip and combined with thicker neoprene feels much more cumbersome compared to the zipless.

75F is about 24C. Personally I don't wear wetsuits in that (especially water) temperature, just boards shorts and a long sleeve rash vest to prevent sunburn.

And what’s the lowest water temp you think you’ll need to deal with? Summertime here we get about 18-20C so I’m on the boardshorts with a thermal top for warmth and UV protection. But sounds like you will do just fine with a spring/summer suit. Definitely go with a zipless for warmer conditions if you ask me.

I don’t know if ION is available or competitively prices where you are (they are EU based) but here is my personal recommendation since I can only speak for the stuff I use: https://www.ion-products.com/water/men/ ... dry-32-dl/

Hope it’s useful. Cheers.

No, it's not, and I never said that it was.

The OP also needs to provide an indication of the LOWEST temperatures to be dealt with.
